Singing with mantillas

Saint Peter Catholic Church Choir - Stevens Point, WI

HT Jen
James Smyth has been singing in the choir at Saint Peter's Catholic Church for three years, has performed in front of big audiences and sometimes leads the choir on the organ.

Soon, though, he will give the most exciting performance of his life, when he sings in front of Pope Benedict XVI.

Smyth will join 35 fellow members of the Saint Peter Schola Cantorum on a trip to Rome in January, singing at a variety of venues including with the Sistine Chapel Choir and at St. Peter's Basilica. About 68 people will go on the trip, including parishioners from Saint Peter's and other Catholic churches in the Stevens Point area.

The group, whose members range in age from 12 to 55 years old, will be gone about a week.

"It's the opportunity of a lifetime," said Smyth, 17, of Stevens Point. "Singing in front of the pope, that's a memory that we'll have for the rest of our lives."

Does anyone know where this picture was taken?

"The Mantillas" - that'd be a great name for an all girls' band, wouldn't it?

Is this picture from one of the events they are singing for in Rome? (This choir is in Rome January 2-9.)

Cheryl, I don't know! I got the picture from someone but they didn't know where it was taken. I'm hoping a reader knows.

This is at St. Peter's Basilica. We were able to sing for a private Mass with Cardinal Burke. It is the choir section of the alter behind the main alter at the Basilica.
