La Crosse Diocese sponsors Becket Fund's Hannah Smith at UW-L

Ms. Smith’s talk will address the HHS Insurance Mandate (requiring coverage of sterilization, contraception and abortion-causing drugs) in context, as just one among an alarming set of threats against the religious liberty of men and women of every faith community.  This will be a powerful and relevant talk no matter what the Supreme Court rules on the healthcare law this summer.

The Washington, D.C. based Becket Fund has defended the religious liberty of all manner of believers since its founding in 1994. It was the first law firm in the nation to file suit against the HHS Mandate, representing Colorado Christian University, Belmont Abbey College and others.

Before joining the Becket Fund in 2007, Ms. Smith clerked for Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. She has been interviewed frequently on national television and by other major media, including the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the Associated Press, U.S. News and World Report, and National Public Radio.
