The 2012 St. Blog’s Liturgolympics!

In honor of the 2012 Summer Olympics, the Wisconsin Bad Boy and AoftheA have teamed up to present the 2012 St. Blog’s Liturgolympics! WBB said to me “You know what? We need a tournament. The competitors will be liberal liturgical innovations. Blah blah blah blah.” I responded “Liturgolympics?” And here we are!

And your assistance is necessary and required. That’s right! Vatican II-style ‘active participation’!! We need your suggestions for the competitors – they can be general or specific, we don’t care. They can be something you witnessed or some ‘urban legend’ you only heard about or read on the Internet. List them in the combox. Then, the SBLC (St Blog’s Liturgolympic Committee) will select eight (8) contestants from the (hopefully!) more than eight suggestions. It’ll be totally random, but if you really really want your suggestion to be selected, we are not above graft, corruption, gratuitous flattery or bribery. After all, we want this to be just as authentic as the real Olympics!

Following a two-day preliminary voting round, the top four (4) vote-getters will square off in the Final Medal Round – another two days of voting – and come Sunday August 12, the day on which the Olympics end, the three medal winners – Felt, Plastic & Macrame – will be announced.

Who says the Catholic blogosphere is boring in the summer? Not us!

Now since I am on the events committee, I cannot submit a team.  But I think all of us here in Wisconsin can root for one terrifyingly stout contender; The Polka Mass!  I urge one of you faithful Sconnies to boldly submit The Polka Mass or your suggestions over at LarryD's place.  Many to choose from, but in the end, only one of these fine competitors will take home the gold felt!

Apparently your Sconnie friends like the Polka Mass, cos no one has submitted it yet.

Larry, I think you misunderstand BC's audience. I, personally, enjoy stepping out to toe-tapping beats and oompa rhythms during the liturgies I attend. I also like giant puppets.

Like I said over at Larry's blog "You’se guys are axing for it as polka masses are big arround here. Some parishes in the Archdiocese even have them as a part of a parish festival."
Thankfully, I have never attended one. Of course, maybe if we get Weird Al to provide the music. . . ;)
