Ignorance of the Scriptures in the Mass is ignorance of Christ

The Church "forcefully and specifically exhorts all the Christian faithful... to learn the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ, by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures. Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ." — Catechism of the Catholic Church ¶133

And yet, where the Church's liturgical books specifically propose the singing or recitation of Scripture during the Entrance, Offertory, and Communion of the Mass, too many of the faithful—often at the behest of the clergy, and with the approval of bishops—have substituted the Holy Word of God with words of mere mortals (however pious these words may be).

Even worse, they have become accustomed to it.
