I suppose it is just as simple as that. But the numbers aren't right at all, as many are now pointing out.
This morning I read another analysis that compared last night's debacle with Venezuela's recent election, which--when Chavez saw things weren't going his way--was concluded with a simple announcement on his part. (Our own President seemed rather too quick to congratulate him.)
We had one gain in Massachusetts with a successful fight against the assisted-suicide initiative there. I should be grateful for that.
It's even more simple if we look at the parallels to the ancient Roman Republic. As Tacitus wrote in his Annales:
"Quotus quisque reliquus qui rem publicam vidisset? Igitur verso civitatis statu nihil usquam prisci et integri moris: omnes exuta aequalitate iussa principis aspectare, nulla in praesens formidine."
I fully expect a modern-day Marc Antony to offer Obama Caesar a crown at some point during the next four years...
(This is very odd. I have read recently that same passage from Tacitus with a friend.) We are rapidly approaching this unhappy situation, where few remaining in America will be able recall what genuine freedom looks like.

Is there a source text for that BF quote? Usually that sentiment is quoted from Karl Marx (though true nonetheless).
