"The architect's name was Ivo Shandor. I found it in Tobin's Spirit Guide. He was also a doctor. Performed a lot of unnecessary surgery. [Sounds about right!] And then in 1920 he started a secret society....After the First World War, Shandor decided that society was too sick to survive And he wasn't alone. he had close to a thousand followers when he died. They conducted rituals up on the roof, bizarre rituals intended to bring about the end of the world, and now it looks like it may actually happen!" - Egon Spengler in GhostbustersAfter last night, you might be thinking Ivo Shandor was right--that society is too sick to survive. Not only was a pro-same sex "marriage" president whose platform centered on free abortion and contraception re-elected, but:
- Even the alternative to Obama aired ads saying, "Hey guys! Don't worry! I love birth control and killing babies conceived in rape too!"
- For the first time ever, same sex "marriage" was approved by the voting public--in a state named after the Blessed Mother;
- And for the second time ever;
- And probably will be in Washington when the votes are counted (not to mention Minnesota voting down an amendment to protect traditional marriage);
- Two Senate candidates lost solely because of their opposition to killing babies conceived in rape;
- Colorado and Washington legalized marijuana (Hey! Since there will be no jobs, we don't need to worry about failing drug tests.); and
- Tammy Baldwin.
I've been increasingly distressed over the sense of despair and hopelessness from my Catholic friends and family these last 12 hours. I would have preferred the President's defeat as well, but it appears we've put our hope in achieving some sort of secular salvation at the ballot box.
Not only that, but we've forgotten that the Church is at her best in times like these. When civilizations collapse under the weight of their own sin, it's the Church that picks up the pieces, preserves culture and begins to rebuild. Great saints are born, and Heaven rejoices.
Perhaps in our 21st century lifestyles, we don't feel like we should be called to share in this mission. Have 1,000 channels of cable TV, our 401k accounts and our minivans with double DVD screens distracted us from our mission of seeking sanctity before prosperity? Or that we should be doing so with the joy and peace that come with being the loved children of Jesus Christ?
Some friends came by for dinner last week, and the husband was explaining how he was trying to comfort his crying toddler: "Daddy's got you. Daddy's going to take care of you!" he said, quickly realizing that this is, indeed, the message our Heavenly Father is trying to instill in us.
As St. Paul wrote:
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.Even Obama cannot separate us for the love of God.
No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
-Romans 8: 38-39
Long live Christ the King!

I didn't know what I was getting into when I saw the title, but I was thrilled to see it :-D
Absolute best scene in one of the great movies of the '80's.
God Bless America!
