Were Ivo Shandor and Gozer the Gozerian right?

"The architect's name was Ivo Shandor. I found it in Tobin's Spirit Guide. He was also a doctor. Performed a lot of unnecessary surgery. [Sounds about right!] And then in 1920 he started a secret society....After the First World War, Shandor decided that society was too sick to survive And he wasn't alone. he had close to a thousand followers when he died. They conducted rituals up on the roof, bizarre rituals intended to bring about the end of the world, and now it looks like it may actually happen!" - Egon Spengler in Ghostbusters
After last night, you might be thinking Ivo Shandor was right--that society is too sick to survive. Not only was a pro-same sex "marriage" president whose platform centered on free abortion and contraception re-elected, but:
So what do we do? Alert the keymaster? Find the gatekeeper? Is our society "too sick to survive"?

I've been increasingly distressed over the sense of despair and hopelessness from my Catholic friends and family these last 12 hours. I would have preferred the President's defeat as well, but it appears we've put our hope in achieving some sort of secular salvation at the ballot box.

Not only that, but we've forgotten that the Church is at her best in times like these. When civilizations collapse under the weight of their own sin, it's the Church that picks up the pieces, preserves culture and begins to rebuild. Great saints are born, and Heaven rejoices.

Perhaps in our 21st century lifestyles, we don't feel like we should be called to share in this mission. Have 1,000 channels of cable TV, our 401k accounts and our minivans with double DVD screens distracted us from our mission of seeking sanctity before prosperity? Or that we should be doing so with the joy and peace that come with being the loved children of Jesus Christ?

Some friends came by for dinner last week, and the husband was explaining how he was trying to comfort his crying toddler: "Daddy's got you. Daddy's going to take care of you!" he said, quickly realizing that this is, indeed, the message our Heavenly Father is trying to instill in us.

As St. Paul wrote:
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

-Romans 8: 38-39
Even Obama cannot separate us for the love of God.

Long live Christ the King!

Absolute best scene in one of the great movies of the '80's.
