Duns Scotus was one of those that defended the Immaculate Conception before it was a dogma. You can see that on the scroll he is holding.
OTH, he also speculated about Voluntarism which led Ockham to Nominalism which led .... to the Enlightenment errors and the fall of Western Philosophy. It's a lot to blame it all on Duns, but sometimes not every speculation should be written down. Might keep him from being a Doctor.

May he soon be declared a saint & a Doctor of the Church.
Is there a strong tradition of devotion to Bl. Dun Scotus in Western Wisconsin?
Agreed Al.
Anon: I think it's among those devoted to the Virgin Mary.

One could just as easily blame the fall of the West on Aquinas for having such bad arguments for intellectualism that Duns was "led" into voluntarism.
