Vice President Joe Biden attended mass and received communion on Sunday at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York where the mass was celebrated by Cardinal Timothy Dolan.
At a time when the administration is being sued by Dolan and the Catholic Bishop’s Conference over the Obama health care provision on birth control, the meeting was seen as an attempt to create a new dialogue.
An Irish American Catholic, Biden receiving communion was also seen as significant. Dolan’s predecessor Cardinal Edward Egan refused to give communion to those who differed with the church on the abortion issue.
Update:
Unlike his predecessor, Dolan does give communion to Catholics who stray from church dogma on abortion policy, saying he prefers to persuade them in discussion rather deny them the Eucharist. [FAIL]
Dolan and Biden had coffee after the service, though neither addressed the press.

How do we know Biden received communion? Also we don't know what Biden and Dolan talked about over coffee, it may well have been some much over-due Eucharistic catechisis.
The article reports in the first paragraph he received communion. As to the coffee, I think Pewsitter was being facetious.
I absolutely can not believe how many Catholics were hoping for this man to be the next Pope.
Isn't Cld. Dolan in an unworthy state to receive the Sacrament ?
Regarding Canon 915 - please see: "APOSTOLIC CONSTITUTION SACRAE DISCIPLINAE LEGES of the SUPREME PONTIFF POPE JOHN PAUL II for the PROMULGATION of the NEW CODE OF CANON LAW" on the Vatican web site. It contains the following sentence. "Finally, the canonical laws by their very nature must be observed." Note the word “MUST”.
Any Cardinal, Bishop or Priest who KNOWINGLY gives Holy Communion to a public heretic or schismatic - is being disobedient to the Magisterium. In addition they are aiding and abetting in Scandal and Sacrilege.

I saw this on Pewsitter as well but its like a blackout on New Advent and the more main stream Catholic sites...wonder why, guess im with Voris on this one, I like the good Cardinal as a person, might even like to have a beer with him (maybe thats what it takes to be a cardinal in NYC [I know, I know, Cardinal Burke had a hand in that])but for crying out loud when will the good stand out cardinals Wuerl and Dolan give reasons and not feelings for their dissent?

I'm am a little surprised how terrible +Dolan has been thus far. Maybe the Cardinal is as well.
Maybe he's afraid due to the Fed persecution, I'm not sure.
a "prince of the church" afraid of the fed, why does he wear red again, I know its just a guess but if thats true Americanism is surely sweeping, jingoism caped in a cassock...oh wait...caped in a t-shirt and pants with a white turtleneck. Another thing to think about is his thougts after the election on the LWCR situation that things might go better now...my thoughts...really? IF someone denies Christ and you want to side step the issue because its not convient (thumbs up to the Seattle AB on this BTW) then im afraid of what will happen when real persecution comes...Red means something, and I dont know if he is willing to live it out, but I pray for him and Wuerl still
Asking everyone to pray that the Bishops start to enforce Canon Law 915 or they should tear that page out of the law book.
Senator Bob Casey just recently voted to reaffirm the HHS Mandate and voted against the Conscience Clause. He also voted against the Mexico City Policy several times and voted to continue funding to Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in this country. And yet, he still receives Holy Communion.
