Which diocese has the most? Take note, people.

And why would it matter who has the most? Masses are masses regardless of language or form.

Guys, for consistencies sake your posting for St. Mary's - Cashton should also be marked (Diocesan - TLM provided by Institute of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest.) It is, after all, a diocesan parish of 120 families which graciously hosts the Extraordinary Form and will, I pray, do so for a very long time to come.

Thank you for the correction, Father. I had always wondered why it is the only US apostolate of the ICK that is not canonically an oratory (other than the Shrine in Chicago)!

Because both are legitimate expressions of the Roman rite. Without access to one, the faithful are not able to access the other half of their legitimate rite, and their patrimony.

By your logic, it wouldn't matter if the OF was very limited, and the EF were celebrated in every pariah. It's the same Mass after all...

It is my understanding that there is a weekly TLM/EF Mass at 5:30 PM at St. Mary's in Pine Bluff.

I should have added to my previous: "on Tuesdays."

@ Michael: To answer your question, about 20 years ago (then)Bishop Burke invited the ICK into the diocese at a time when one had to have special permission to offer Mass in the Extraordinary Form. He wanted them to be some place where the pastor would be welcoming to them and the pastor of St. Mary's Parish fit the bill. When they came and took up residence in the former convent this became their north American headquarters. They have been here ever since, hosted by the parish of St. Mary's. The reason they happened to get St. Mary's in Wausau and could establish their apostolate as an oratory there is because it was a church that had been closed after the joining of the two south-east side parishes (the other being St. James). St. Mary's - Cashton continues to be an active parish and as the current pastor I am very pleased to have the Mass offered in the Extraordinary Form offered here. And so, the ICK continues to provide a priest in order to offer Mass in the Extraordinary Form at St. Mary's.

Andy, I'm not sure that it's always a TLM at this point. Fr Heilman is very close to being prepared to celebrate the TLM, but right now my understanding is that if Fr Isaac isn't available, it is an OF Mass. Also, the Rosary Rallies will be moving back outdoors (on the steps of the Capitol again) in about a month, so I'm not sure if the Tuesday evening Masses will continue or not. But, within a few months there will be some good news regarding St Mary's Pine Bluff and the TLM.

Fr Navarro, the pastor at St Norbert's in Roxbury (D. of Madison) has just announced that the Sunday TLM will NOT be moving to 10am this summer, as it has in previous years. 11:00am is now the year-round start time.

St. Benedict Church in Duluth, MN offers Traditional Latin Mass every Sunday at 1 PM.

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin in Somerset, WI no longer offers the TLM. It may be found at St. Joseph in Osceola, WI on Sundays at 12:15.

St. Joseph's in Osceola no longer offers the TLM as Father Brenna has retired and the Parish Deacon and interim Parochial Administrator do not support the TLM, and the Bishop seems unwilling to intervene on behalf of a very robust and active TLM community. Sad

Fr Brenna said...

The TLM has resumed in Osceola WI, beginning this coming Sunday 17th August. Because of the persistent efforts of some very committed and faithful laity, the parish leadership has consented to an 8:00 am time on Sundays for celebration of the traditional rite of Mass at St Joseph Church. Mass time for holydays of obligation TBD. I will be travelling from the Twin Cities to celebrate these Masses. Te Deum laudamus!

Dear Matt, As you reposted this I thought it would be good to update you on the Mass times for the Extraordinary Form Masses at St. Mary's. Sunday - 12:00 (High Mass); Thursdays - 6:30 pm (followed by Eucharistic adoration / benediction); 1st & 3rd Wednesdays (and 5th when there is one) at 8:00 am; 1st Saturday - 8:00 am.

Updated, thanks Father.

So why doesn't the church understand that there is a very large population of her followers that long for the "traditional" celebration of Mass? The Vatican's liberal views on a host of things is appalling. Where is it's traditional approach to preaching the word of God when some brain surgeon a few years ago felt compelled to change many of the greetings and some of our prayers. I refuse to attend mass and to have to read a prayer/greeting card to follow along when I learned all my prayers years ago and never understood why they needed to change to begin with. Honestly, I didn't leave the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church left me... :0(
