Feast of the Assumption at Good Help Shrine with Cdl George

Sometimes God allows miracles to happen as a way to help humanity on its path to him, Francis Cardinal George, archbishop of Chicago, told at least 2,000 Catholics gathered together Thursday in the town of Green Bay.

George was celebrating a Mass for the Feast of the Assumption of Virgin Mary at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help, where a 19th century Belgian immigrant reportedly saw apparitions of Mary three times. Catholics honor Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, to mark her assumption into heaven — body and soul.

“He gives us help not only in witnesses who lived God’s life well — we call them saints — but also in miracles,” George said. “In a miracle, for a moment, the curtain does open up and we see the world as God sees it, and as he would have it be if the world, the cosmos and our own personal lives were not marked by sin.”

Religious believers have flocked to the shrine outside Champion since the famous sightings but even more so after Dec. 8, 2010, when Catholic Diocese of Green Bay Bishop David Ricken officially approved the apparitions as being “worthy of belief.” It is the only site in the United States officially recognized by the Roman Catholic Church for such a sighting, which provided the theme for George’s homily at the outdoor Mass.

Great gathering and a great homily from Cardinal George. I believe that miracles is God's way of showing that He is with us and that He cares about us that He would want to send a message to the world. The feast of the Assumption is a great celebration and the Assumption of marry is a great proof of God's love for his creations.
