Green Bay parish sips locally made sacred altar wine

The most surprising thing about Mona Rose Winery, which opened last December in Ashwaubenon, is that owner and winemaker Craig Fletcher has been asked to make the altar wine for his church.

So, beginning in the next month or two, if you take Communion at the Nativity of Our Lord Parish on Oneida St. in Green Bay, you'll be blessed with a local wine on your lips.

Fletcher's regular, everyday wines were poured earlier this year at a spaghetti supper celebrating this Catholic church's 50th anniversary.

And that's when Father John (Jack) Harper asked Fletcher if he would be willing to produce sacramental wine for the church.

"I'm very excited about this prospect," the priest said in a recent phone conversation. "Craig Fletcher is a trustee of the parish and a disabled American veteran — I wanted to do everything I could to support him and help him succeed."
