Police searching for man missing after visit to La Crosse Guadalupe Shrine

Authorities continue the search for a man who walked away from the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine outside La Crosse Sunday afternoon.

Vernon County Sheriff John Spears said besides officers from his department as well as La Crosse Police, volunteer firefighters from Stoddard and Coon Valley were asked Tuesday to help with the search for 74-year-old Goudensio Gayton.

Gayton, who is visiting the area from Mexico, wandered off from his family around 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the shrine. A passerby saw Gayton around 6:30 p.m. that afternoon near the intersection of County Road K and Hamburg Ridge Road in the Town of Hamburg sitting on a guardrail. Authorities haven't received any reports of his being seen since then.

Searchers have combed the area along the road and surrounding areas. As of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Gayton has not been found.
