Night of thanks held in Milwaukee for police officers at Blue Mass

Many gathered at the Basilica of Saint Josaphat Monday night for what's called the blue mass. It's a chance to pray and praise law enforcement.

It's become an annual tradition but the the timing of the mass could not have come at a more challenging time for the men and women who wear blue.

"We ask you for continued blessing upon all officers on active duty," said Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki.

The archbishop and Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn shared the pulpit for a message of faith. Listecki talked about the hyper scrutiny anyone in authority faces - especially police. But he said there should also be a time for thanks.

"One way we are able to give back is by honoring them in prayer in mass and understanding that sacrifice and type of commitment," said Listecki.
