Duffy was the best option, but perhaps he'll run for Governor in the near future.

Umnnh......what makes Duffy "the best option?"

I'm not a raving fan of Fitzgerald, but he's solid, just as is Vukmir, (a Greek Orthodox.)

Duffy always seemed just a little left-ish.

Leftish on what?

Nothing against the other guys, I think he's got that "electable" quality outside of policy. Run the ads of him in the lumber jack competitions. A bit manlier than oh I dont know, Tommy.

Living in S. Duffy's district, I can honestly say he's the best they come. Left-ish? After David Obey, Lenin would be left-ish!

Leftish......what do you mean? He is a great family man and public servant.

He's not a hard-C "conservative." And we're not comparing him to Obey, who was to the left of Lenin, not to the right.

I would like to remind all of you that Catholic social teaching doesn't fit nicely into a "left" or "right" box; maybe it would benefit everyone if we stopped pretending that everything "conservative" is moral, and everything "liberal" is evil. Remember, the rights of organized Labor have their foundations in Rerum Novarum, and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was a huge advocate of the environment, reasonable financial regulations, and, perhaps most shockingly, the right to health care ensured by the state. As Catholics we are called to a more nuanced understanding of social issues and not this infantile and false dichotomy of liberal and conservative.

Thank you so VERY much for reminding us that Catholicism is the home of Right Order. Matter of fact, it was also the home of a certain St Paul, who famously said that 'those who will not work shall not eat.'

Yes, indeed, distinctions are good. And it's not hard to distinguish supercilious half-mature people in a combox.

Half-mature people in a combox? That's interesting; do you care to elaborate?
