We were married 47 years ago today in the minimalist version of St. Paul's when we were graduate students. There was a blizzard that night that covered the ground with snow during the course of the evening ceremony, which was illuminated by the Christmas trees in the sanctuary and the home-made candles we brought and set on the altar. I was dismayed and startled by this replacement church. I've seen the original mosaic in Rome on which this one is based. Although it "fits" in the Holy City, the Madison version is discordant and unsettling. I hope the view from the roof helps compensate, or as one reporter commented, that vines grow very quickly.
