Cardinal Burke to Chair Christendom College’s 35th Anniversary Honorary Dinner Committee

Cardinal Raymond Burke, Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, will serve as the Chairman of the Honorary Dinner Committee for Christendom College’s 35th Anniversary Gala dinner.

Cardinal Burke is also Ecclesiastical Advisor to The Cardinal Newman Society’s Center for the Advancement of Catholic Higher Education.

The event will take place on April 6, 2013, at Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles in Chantilly, Virginia.

Cardinal Burke, who in 2007 received an honorary doctorate from Christendom College, is deeply impressed with how Christendom’s education is making an impact on its alumni and the culture at large. “I always think that the ultimate test of the excellence of a Catholic college is the quality of Faith in Christ and in His Church of the alumni, and Christendom certainly stands out in that regard,” he said.

Speaking of, I caught news that Warren Carroll passed away yesterday(on this blessed feast day!).  Requiescat in pace!

From Dr. Deal Hudson:

A convert to the Catholic faith in 1968, Dr. Carroll received his Ph.D. in history from Columbia University.

Prior to his academic career, Dr. Carroll was a Communist propaganda analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency. His Seventy Years of the Communist Revolution (updated and re-released as The Rise and Fall of the Communist Revolution) was a product of those years.

Among Dr. Carroll’s many books include a six-volume history of Christendom, Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Conquest of Darkness, The Guillotine & the Cross, Isabel of Spain: The Catholic Queen, and The Last Crusade. This profile of Dr. Carroll from the Christendom College web site provides a complete bibliography.

Dr. Carroll is survived by his wife Anne, herself a noted author and founder of Seton Home Study School and Seton Junior & Senior High School in Manassas, Virginia.

The Church owes both Dr. Carroll, and his wife Anne, an immense debt of gratitude.

Cardinal Arinze and Bishop Morlino to speak at Christendom bioethics conference

Christendom will host a one-day conference on Catholic Bioethics on Saturday, July 9, 2011, on its Front Royal, VA, campus. With College President Timothy O'Donnell as emcee, the conference will feature world-renowned theologians Francis Cardinal Arinze, Dr. Janet Smith, Fr. Tadeusz Pacholczyk, and Bishop Robert Morlino, with a Q&A panel of the speakers at the end.
