JS: Look inside Pabst's new Milwaukee brewery - a former church building

Three gleaming copper serving vessels hold a spot just below the former choir loft of the church turned brewery.

The altar wasn't there in the building originally, but for the new Pabst Milwaukee Brewery, this will do for symbolism. The brewery, at 1037 W. Juneau Ave., will open April 14 but offered a sneak peek on Monday.

John Kimes, who heads the Pabst Milwaukee brewing staff, took time out from making a Belgian Tripel to act as tour guide in the brewhouse. It's a return to Milwaukee for the brewery, which has a rich and complex history here that dates back to 1844.

Milwaukee welfare worker to woman he impregnated: Get an abortion or else

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
A child welfare worker who impregnated an emotionally troubled woman he had investigated for child abuse ordered the woman to get an abortion or she would lose everything, according to a lawsuit filed Monday in federal court and an interview with the woman's attorney.

"He said, 'If I have to lose everything, then you have to lose everything too,'" the attorney, Joy Bertrand, quoted the woman as saying.

The woman - Theola Nealy - refused to have an abortion.

Within weeks, Nealy's two children - a daughter then 5 years old and a 3-year-old son - were taken into state custody. Years later, those children have not been returned.

And the baby fathered by the caseworker - now almost 3 years old - continues to live with her father, Peter J. Nelsen.

"Nelsen was assigned to protect the most vulnerable among us, and he preyed upon them," Bertrand said.
Hey Planned Parenthood, what say you? How's that for choice?

PLW: Milwaukee sidewalk counselor gets legal help

The below article from LifeNews illustrates the treatment pro-lifers receive from the Milwaukee Police Department. In addition to this court case, the Milwaukee Police Department and the City of Milwaukee are facing a lawsuit from several pro-lifers, who claim the Milwaukee Police systematically violated the protesters' civil rights through harassment, intimidation and improper enforcement of ordinances.

In one instance, according to the suit, plaintiffs Alex and Ana Marie Doak were pushing their baby in a carriage and handing out pamphlets when seven police officers surrounded them and threatened to charge them with abuse and neglect of their child.

On Dec. 28 in Milwaukee municipal court, the Thomas More Society entered a not guilty plea on behalf of a pro-life sidewalk counselor.

James Marcou was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct as he stood and took video outside a local abortion business. He was charged in August after two abortion center escorts at the Affiliated Women’s Heath Center claimed he was acting disorderly and getting in their way outside the facility.

“James Marcou has been doing life-saving work for years in Milwaukee without incident, and the only crime here has been committed by those who would outlaw and penalize his peaceable saving of so many human lives,” said Tom Brejcha, president and chief counsel of the Chicago-based Thomas More Society.

The police were called and interviewed the escorts inside the abortion center but did not ask any of the pro-lifers for their side of the story, according to Marcou.

“The citizens of Milwaukee deserve better from their police department and city prosecutors,” said Brejcha.

Marcou has pled not guilty and the case will be transferred to the circuit court from the municipal court.
