Shrine names new executive director

A lawyer from Reedsburg, Wis., has been named executive director of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Leif E. Arvidson will begin his service at the shrine on June 21, according to the Most Rev. Raymond L. Burke, president of the board of directors at the shrine. He replaces Sister Christa Marie Halligan, who was transferred to St. James Academy in Lenexa, Kan.

Arvidson completed his undergraduate degree in history, with a minor in theology, at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio, and received his law degree from Notre Dame Law School. He and his wife, Karen, served for nearly two years as Catholic lay missionaries in Japan shortly after they were married.

In recent years, they have been active in their parish and the Diocese of Madison, where they reside. He has served on the Parish Pastoral Council at Sacred Heart Church in Reedsburg. He has been a pilgrim to the Shrines of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima and Lourdes, and on several occasions to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse.

Arvidson practices law at Arvidson Law Office in Reedsburg, where he specializes in estate planning. He and his family will be moving to La Crosse in the coming weeks.

Interesting, I had heard the new director would not be a religious and it appears that is holding true.  I have no knowledge of Mr. Arvidson but he sounds solid.

May our Lord and our Lady of Guadalupe bless Leif E. Arvidson (is that Norwegian? There's plenty in the Diocese of La Crosse!)in his new mission as executive Director of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe!
May St. Michael defend and protect him and his family (from what I have experienced, he will need it:<)!)
Thanks, Matt, for this announcement.
