St Stanislaus, Milwaukee, WI

From reader Steve Kuhl:
Here are several nice pictures of the interior of St. Stanislaus in Milwaukee ("Someone looking for a solid parish in Milwaukee" blog post).

The church went through a wreckovation in 1966 that removed the original stained glass windows and replaced them with crappy meaning less ones (see pictures).  It also made some minor changes to the exterior.  It still is a very beautiful church, though.

My parish, yes! Cannot say enough about St. Stan's and the ICKSP there.

While the 1966 renovations had their issues (you are 100% right on the bland stained glass) the addition of the outdoor mosiac of Our Lady of Czestochowa was a great thing.

1966 was the 1000 year aniversary of the conversion of Poland. There were plans that a Polish Bishop would visit Milwaukee in 1966 for a celebration at St. Stan's, this never happend for Cold War reasons.

In some ways though we are lucky for the 1966 renovations. There was still enough of a footing in the past to not do anything too radical. Imagine had the rennovations been delayed to take place in 1976 or 1986, the horror!

Interestingly enough this parish was a true hold-out though. I have seen pictures of Tridentine Masses taking place there (very poorly attended it really was the five-old ladies type that the liberals today like to think are the only groud desiring the old-rite) as late as 1976 and possibly 1978.

Since I had been under the impression that the Tridentine Mass had been abolished nearly overnight I was rather surpsied by this but asking around and talking to a few south-siders it seemed that into the 70s some priests just continued with it esp. for daily Mass with little fanfair, complaint, or even notice.

When I was there, I noticed that almost all of the interior statues are white. Where they painted over during the renovations?

I absolutely love the South Side, especially around this area.

Saint Stanislaus is absolutely flourishing today in the Latin Mass Community, and from time to time, I see African Americans, and other peoples attending the Latin Mass.

All are welcome.........and the Latin Mass is awesome.

I try to give donations whenever I can to this absolute wonderful church.

It is absolutely delightful, beautiful, and awesome.
