Why we post salary databases on JSOnlineGo to JSOnline to see for yourself
In September 2007, JSOnline began publishing searchable salary information for government workers on our Data On Demand site. The databases now include more than 8,000 city of Milwaukee workers, more than 7,000 Milwaukee County employees and more than 38,000 public school employees working in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Racine and Kenosha counties.
Government worker salaries are public records because of the long-held belief that taxpayers have a right to know how their money is being spent. For that reason, we've made these records available online.
The data enables citizens to do their own simple analysis of salaries by sorting and filtering through thousands of names. These tools empower readers to act as their own watchdog, using information that is a matter of public record.

*horrified* The lowest paid worker in the Madison Metro School District makes more than twice and nearly three times what I make. AND they have better benefits? Sign me up...
