GBPG: Green Bay area's 'Walk to Mary' goes global

Tens, hundreds, thousands of people have visited the holy place on a regular basis.

Many more will get a chance to virtually travel to The Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in rural Champion.

Eternal Word Television Network, better known as EWTN Global Catholic Network, will air a 30-minute special next week on this year's Walk to Mary event.

The program, which was contracted by EWTN to be filmed by Dolan Productions LLC, showcases the second annual walking pilgrimage to the revered shrine that was held May 3.

Headquartered in Irondale, Ala., ETWN, according to its website, reaches more than 230 million homes in 144 countries and territories with its Catholic-themed programming.

"To get worldwide exposure like this is remarkable," said Pat Deprey, the Walk to Mary event director.

The 21-mile trek started at the National Shrine of St. Joseph at St. Norbert Abbey in De Pere and ended at The Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help. Deprey said about 700 people participated, nearly double the turnout for the inaugural event in 2013.
