Hundreds Expected to Make 21-Mile Walk to Mary Pilgrimage to Champion Shrine for Opening Weekend of Marian Month

Relevant Radio’s Father Rocky to Live-Stream Walk to Mary and May Crowning Masses, May 5 and 6

At the opening of the month in which Catholics worldwide celebrate the Blessed Mother, Mary, hundreds of faithful pilgrims are expected to take the “Walk to Mary” on May 5. They’ll journey together to The National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, Wis, where the Blessed Virgin Mary first appeared in 1859 to Adele Brise, a young Belgian immigrant who became the first steward of the Blessed Mother’s message and mission. Walk to Mary is the first of two major weekend events that open Marian Month at Champion Shrine.

Walk to Mary is a 21-mile walking pilgrimage from the Shrine of St. Joseph at Old St. Joseph Church at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis., to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, Wis. Other shorter routes, including a two mile walking route for families and children, are available to those who wish to participate in the Walk. Registration for the day-long event closes May 4 at www.walktomary.com.

All are welcome to attend Walk to Mary, the Walk to Mary Mass with the Most Rev. David L. Ricken, Bishop of Green Bay and May Crowning Mass with Father Rocky. For those who wish to participate in the Masses remotely throughout the world, both Marian Month Masses at 5:15 p.m. (CST) on Saturday and 11 a.m. (CST) on Sunday will be streamed live on the official Father Rocky Facebook page.

Cardinal Burke shares love for Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe at gathering in NYC

A small group of Relevant Radio® listeners and supporters gathered at the Harvard Club in New York City on Thursday, February 8, for an intimate gathering with His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke. John Harper, host of Morning Air®, served as Emcee for the evening.

Cardinal Burke is the Patron of the Order of Malta, serves on the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, and is founder and President of the Board of Directors for the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He spoke to the group about his love and vision for founding the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe; his talk was recorded by John Harper and Matt Beardsley and later shared on Morning Air.

“Saint John Paul II published his apostolic exhortation, The Church in America, and he talked about the importance of Our Lady of Guadalupe and her message for all of America, and especially her message in defense of and in promotion of human life, which in our lifetime I saw come under terrible attack in our nation. And so … we were still in the planning phases to develop this shrine, this place of pilgrimage and we decided that it would be a shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe,” said Cardinal Burke.

Abp. Listecki blesses the new tower for Relevant Radio

Speaking of Relevant Radio, did you hear that they fired Sean Herriott?  I guess it happened a few months ago, but I just heard about it.
Lots of folks are starting to ask, "What happened?"

Relevant Radio decided to make a change in morning drive, and my last day with the company was a week ago today. It was unexpected, but some of life's greatest blessings can come wrapped up as problems.

Everyone at Relevant Radio was kind, compassionate, and showed genuine concern for me and my family. I have nothing but gratitude for the nearly 10 years I spent there. On and off the air, they are the best people I've ever worked with.

The Herriott family is on to new adventures, and we have no idea where the road will take us at this point. I'm exploring some possible work opportunities, and I'll start looking in earnest next week. In the meantime, thanks so much for your concern, and for your prayers.

Relevant Radio acquires WKSH 1640 AM Sussex

via The Provincial Emails
The WKSH Wikipedia entry says

"in March 2014, [former owner] Disney instead filed to sell the station to Starboard Media Foundation, which broadcasts Catholic programming on its stations through the Relevant Radio network. WKSH will be the network's second station in the market; Relevant Radio already serves Milwaukee's northern suburbs on WSJP-FM (100.1 FM)."

Formerly WPJP for Pope John Paul, now with call letters canonized. WKSH will become WSJP-AM as a sister station. The CUF Milwaukee April 2014 newsletter adds that

"According to a recent announcement by Fr. Rocky Hoffman, JCD, Executive Director of Relevant Radio, the station is moving ahead with plans to purchase station WSJP, 1640 AM, 'which will more than quadruple our listening reach in southeast Wisconsin to 2.4 million people!' Fr. Rocky happily announced, 'I have good news for you in Milwaukee!!' He indicated that 'we should be up and running by late April or May!'"

Also available since last year, at least in the southern reaches of the Milwaukee metropolitan area, is WSFI 88.5 FM out of Antioch, Illinois, an EWTN affiliate.

Relevant Radio's Fr. Rocky on the hot seat after pro-marriage talk at Catholic high school

I missed this over the weekend:
The Rev. Francis “Rocky” Hoffman, a priest of Opus Dei, an orthodox division of the Roman Catholic Church, and executive director and radio host of Relevant Radio, a Catholic radio network that broadcasts on 33 stations in 13 states and online, had spoken to a school-wide assembly at The Prout School, where Anna is a junior. The speech was being taped to be broadcast on Relevant Radio at a later date.

“She was most upset about the divisive and offensive language regarding divorce, homosexuality and even adoption,” Kathleen Schlenz said. “None of the parents or faculty knew it was being taped to be aired. They were essentially held hostage and told to clap after this man’s responses to questions, even when they didn’t agree with them.”

Father Hoffman was on retreat and unavailable for comment before the Independent went to press Wednesday.

On April 10, parents received a letter of apology from Principal David Carradini since Friday. In the new letter, Carradini announced he would not resign.

“People in our community are calling for my resignation, seeing in this event the culmination of frustration with my leadership,” Carradini wrote in the April 10 letter. ”I have taken this call very seriously, deliberating with myself for days and seeking counsel from others. I sincerely believe that my resignation as Principal is not in the best interests of The Prout School. I have this discussed this option with diocesan officials and they, too, believe that I should continue in my position as the leader of our School.”

Good for Fr. Rocky!  The fact the principal thought about resigning goes to show the school may not be salvageable.  I hope Wisconsin diocesan schools can invite him to give the same talk.

And I thought this was interesting

Also found an online petition: End Common Core in the Milwaukee Archdiocese

I have to be honest here, Abp. Listecki has doubled down on Common Core.  Unless there is a major financial backlash he's going to stick to his guns on this.

Hundreds of people packed St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church on Thursday, some laughing, some sobbing, to pay respects and share memories of the Rev. Dan Farley, a former Assumption High School chaplain and instructor.

Farley, the well-known pastor at St. Maximilian Kolbe, died suddenly Sunday at the age of 54, after dealing with multiple health problems during his life.

Members of Farley's many families -- relatives, fellow priests, congregation members, fellow military chaplains -- packed the church, filling the pews and spilling out into hallways to watch the service on video screens.

Well-known Wisconsin priest Rev. Dan Farley dies

The Rev. Daniel Farley died this morning in Eau Claire.

Farley had been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease in 2009.

He was the priest of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in the town of Buena Vista and had served as a U.S. Army chaplain in Afghanistan in 2009.

In May, Farley went to Lourdes for the third time as a chaplain for wounded soldiers and veterans seeking healing from God.

"Many of our soldiers come with post-traumatic stress disorder or some other kind of wound. My work is to spend quality time with them, to process with them their experience and try to help them find a path to inner peace," he said in late April. "When they know that I'm there with a terminal illness, that too just opens another door."

The chief of chaplains at the U.S. Pentagon recommended Farley serve as a chaplain for this pilgrimage after Farley was medically evacuated from Afghanistan in 2009.Arrangements are pending with A.J. Holly and Sons Funeral Home in Waupaca.
