Barron holds tree-lighting ceremony to honor Jayme Closs
continue at GBPGBARRON - The choir softly sang its refrain, "I Believe," as a Christmas tree glowed in the darkness.
Such was the mood of a tree-lighting ceremony at Riverview Middle School in Barron Wednesday to honor 13-year-old Jayme Closs. The missing teen’s family and residents gathered together in the cold, bringing light to their community and showing hope is still alive.
Jayme disappeared on Oct. 15, the night her parents, James and Denise, were found shot to death in their home outside Barron. Authorities have ruled the deaths homicides, and Jayme is considered endangered.
Wednesday’s Tree of Hope ceremony was organized by the Barron School District and Jennie-O Turkey Store and Hormel Foods, where James, 56, and Denise, 46, worked for 27 years. Jayme is a student at the middle school.

Horror: Gunman on the loose after fatal shooting, sexual assault at Catholic Supply store in St. Louis County
A gunman fatally shot a woman and sexually assaulted at least one person at a Catholic Supply store in a strip mall on Manchester Road on Monday afternoon before disappearing, police said.continue at STLPostDispatch
The 53-year-old shooting victim later died, police said Monday night.
The shooting was reported to police at 3:19 p.m., and police shut down the shopping center and launched a manhunt that lasted into the night. When asked if they were still seeking the gunman Tuesday morning, police said only that they would let reporters know when something was new.
At a news conference a few hours after the shooting, a police spokesman said investigators had “no idea” of a motive and that the man did not appear to know the victims. St. Louis County police Sgt. Shawn McGuire encouraged anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious to call police.

Beau Solomon, 19, from Wisconsin, was reported missing when he failed to show up for orientation at John Cabot University.
He had landed in Rome on Thursday to start a study abroad program at the university, whose campus is in the central Trastevere district, which is near the river and popular with young people.
That evening, he headed out to G-Bar near Piazza Trilussa and as last seen leaving at around 1am on Friday morning. His body was found on Monday.
Early reports said the teenager, a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin Madison who survived a rare form of cancer as a child, was found wearing a bloodied shirt with a wound on his head.
...
Nick and Jodi Solomon, who live in Spring Green about 40 miles west of Madison, had simply warned their son about pick pocketing while he was abroad.
When they asked for updates from their son after he arrived in Italy on Thursday, he wrote: 'Everything's so pretty, it's so beautiful.'
His older brother Cole said he was 'the most responsible kid ever' and said surviving cancer had contributed to his incredible grit.
‘He had over 15 to 20 procedures growing up throughout his life and was able to overcome all of that and still became a phenomenal high school athlete,' Cole told WKOW.

Michigan family in need as mother AND father deal with cancer
via Te Deum Laudamus
A GoFund Me account has been set up by a relative of Caroline DeLoca to help with expenses related to her recent diagnosis of cancer. This comes just a few years after her husband, Peter, battled a cancerous tumor in his leg. As Caroline faces her own battle now, with stage 3 breast cancer, there are concerns that Peter's cancer may have returned.
This beautiful pro-life family with five children and, baby number six getting close to third trimester, belongs to Assumption Grotto and is known to many of us. They have a loving, supportive family network. But, as you can imagine, financial needs are many.
You can use the GoFund Me account set up by Caroline's aunt OR you can give money to the family directly if you know them. Others who do not know them, please check back tonight or tomorrow and I will update this post with an alternate place to send checks so the family gets the money directly if that pans through.
Most of all, pray for this family.
Body found of man missing from Guadalupe Shrine pilgrimage
The body of a 74-year-old Mexican national who wandered away from Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine two weeks ago was found Saturday afternoon in the town of Hamburg.continue at La Crosse Tribune
Vernon County Sheriff John Spears said it remains a mystery why Goudensio Gayton, who was visiting family in Iowa, left the shrine. His body was found one-half mile from where a trail camera caught an image of him the evening of Oct. 12, the day he visited the shrine.
Search and rescue teams from throughout Wisconsin searched for Gayton beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday after many previous searches failed to turn up anything. His body was found about 2 p.m., an hour before the search was slated to end.
“We were glad to be able to give an answer to the family,” said Vernon County Sheriff John Spears, “but there are still a lot of unanswered questions.”

Below is from the Facebook thread going around requesting prayers for his healing. Please note the request for intercession from Sts. John Paul II and Luke.

Look upon him with the eyes of Your mercy; comfort him with a sense of Your goodness; preserve him from the temptations of the enemy; and give him patience under his affliction. In Your good time, restore him to health; and grant that he may dwell with You in life everlasting; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

THE MEMORARE OF ST. JOSEPH
REMEMBER, O most illustrious Patriarch St. Joseph, on the testimony of St. Teresa, thy devoted client, never hath it been heard that anyone who has invoked thy protection or sought thy mediation has not obtained relief. In this confidence I come before thee, my loving protector, chaste Spouse of Mary, Foster-father of the Savior of men and dispenser of the treasures of His Sacred Heart. Despise not my earnest prayer but graciously hear and obtain my petition. [Mention your request - Margaret Mary be healed]
Let us pray
O God, Who by Thine ineffable Providence didst vouchsafe to choose St Joseph to be the spouse of Thy most holy Mother, grant, we beseech Thee, that he whom we venerate as our protector on earth may be our intercessor in Heaven, who livest and reignest forever and ever. Amen
Venerable Pope Pius XII, pray for Margaret Mary's speedy recovery. Amen.
Cardinal George says cancer appears to be active again
Chicago, Ill., Mar 7, 2014 / 11:13 am (CNA).- Cardinal Francis George of Chicago told his archdiocese that Lent finds him in “poor health” as cancer in his right kidney that was dormant for over a year is “showing signs of new activity.”continue at CNA
“While I am not experiencing symptoms of cancer at this time, this is a difficult form of the disease, and it will most probably eventually be the cause of my death,” he wrote in his most recent column for the Catholic New World archdiocesan paper.
Cardinal George said that after “many tests, scans, biopsies and other inconveniences,” he was advised to enter into an aggressive round of chemotherapy which will take place over the next two months.
....
“As I prepare for this next round of chemo, I ask for your prayers, which have always sustained me, and for your understanding if I cannot always fulfill the schedule already set for the next several months.”
In his column, Cardinal George also said “I imagine this news will increase speculation about my retirement.” However, the “only certainty is that no one knows when that will be, except perhaps the Holy Father, and he hasn't told me.”

Parish members mourn suicide of priest at Cudahy church
More than 200 mourners gathered Monday at a Cudahy church to remember Father Jan Kieliszewski, who was found dead Sunday morning at nearby Nativity of the Lord Parish.continue at JS
The Milwaukee County medical examiner's office ruled Kieliszewski's death a suicide, according to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
Archdiocese spokesman Julie Wolf said the priest had been ill for a couple of weeks.
But Wolf said she knew of no other circumstances that might have prompted Kieliszewski's suicide, such as a disciplinary action or investigation. And his name does not appear in the thousands of pages of sex abuse documents released by the archdiocese as part of its bankruptcy earlier this month.
"There's nothing, nothing in his file that would explain this," Wolf said. "It was a complete shock to everybody."
