St Dominic receives the rosary
This Friday, October 7, Fr Zuhlsdorf will celebrate a First Friday Mass for the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

Holy Mass will begin at 7pm at St Mary’s Pine Bluff. Please join us in celebrating this feast commemorating Our Lady’s intercession in the Battle of Lepanto, in which the Christian West managed to stave off Islamic invasion forces.

Father Z's trip to La Crosse always coincides with my uncooperative schedule, hindering my ability to appropriately buy him a beer.

Happy Silver Anniversary to Father Z!

Most influential contemporary people in my faith journey in some order would be; Karl Keating, Mother Angelica, Father Z, probably Terry Nelson too.

Still probably my favorite all time Father Z post: ... I can't find it!  It's the one where he slowly turns into a "Taliban Catholic."  This was back before the left had a wider assortment of insults to use on us.

Fr Z starts guest column in the MadCatHerald: The different Rites of the Latin Church

The first in a series by Fr. John Zuhlsdorf about the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite.

“Bishop Morlino did what? What’s that all about?”

You may have seen notices and articles over the last year or so about Bishop Robert C. Morlino celebrating “Pontifical Mass at the Throne in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite.”

It is possible that some of you, seeing “Throne,” and “Pontifical,” and “Extraordinary,” might say “What’s that all about?” as you turn the page.

In a short series over the next few issues of the Catholic Herald, let’s drill into “what that’s all about.”

I'll update this post if I find others(or kindly readers send me some).

Here's one from Dec 1 at Sts Peter and Paul in Wisconsin Rapids.

Ten years and 71 million page views

I started it with the original intention of it being an archive for articles I was writing for The Wanderer. Thus, it’s original name.

It rapidly took on a life of its own.

Since I started keeping stats, on 23 November 2006, I have had about 71 million page views and 45 million unique visits. People come from all over the world, as you can see from the screen shot of the live visit feed just before I posted this.

Mystery object at Sinsinawa

I am not entirely sure what this is, so I thought I’d open it up to the readership.

It might be Sophia giving birth to the World Soul over the deep primal waters in the beneath… rather like what the LCWR is into.

Any other guesses?

Father Z visits La Crosse once in a Blue Moon

Father Z covers his visit to the La Crosse Guadalupe Shrine.

Blue Moon

Unfortunately I was out of town on my own errands wrapped in mystery and some "Smit-icks."  Otherwise, I ought to have insisted on buying him a beer.  I've met him briefly in person a few years ago at Knights of Divine Mercy.  Speaking of, KDM in September?

Father Z's suggestion on "cake wars" makes Wisconsin State Journal

A Madison priest known for pointed commentary is offering what he says is a path forward for businesses opposed to participation in same-sex weddings.

The Rev. John Zuhlsdorf, known nationally as “Father Z” on his popular blog, posted his suggestion under the title, “When they come to destroy your business because you are pro-traditional family.”

Zuhlsdorf, a priest in the Madison Catholic Diocese, suggests that when a gay couple seeks the services of a Christian business owner for “their immoral event,” the owner should accept. He then explains what the business owner should do next.

“Tell them that the food and services will be just fine,” Zuhlsdorf writes. “And then inform them that all of the money that they pay for the services will be donated to a traditional pro-family lobby.”

Erickson goes on to interview Father Z.

So.... I haven't talked about it in a while... almost out of fear, but right now Catholic Charities in Wisconsin right now may be forced to capitulate on gay adoptions.  We saw the hammer come down on Catholic Charities in Illinois.  I hope dioceses have taken steps to prepare themselves for legal action.

I took some too but I don't think they turned out.  In my typical fashion I'm running up to the door huffing and puffing, not getting setup to do much.  I should have just setup a tripod to take video.  Oh yeah, and I wanted to get some shots of the choir but spent far too much time in prayer, what the heck.  The good news is it sounds like these will keep happening.  One number I heard was there were 330 that attended.  The chapel was almost completely full. Was nice to sit with the official BC aunt and uncle there as well. Music was excellent.... it made me realize I need a will with the first line being Sung Requiem. Bp. Morlino did preach a bit after, he recognized the monks from The Holy Resurrection Monastery(over in the Green Bay Diocese by Manitowoc), and joked that he had better keep true to his promise to visit the monastery himself.

FatherZ: The Bovine Option

Father Z is in Rome.  Strolling through some Roman shops, he noticed an interesting pattern for vestments...
Then there was the Bovine Option. It is for Wisconsin, after all.
