As our country continues to embrace all sorts of grave evils, I have felt, lately, like a foreigner in my own country. This feeling of sorrow led me to reflect on two stunningly contrasting visions for how to construct human society.

I distinctly remember the president saying this because I spent a portion of his first campaign reading Cardinal Ratzinger's Jesus of Nazareth. Here's what the future Pope Benedict XVI had to say:

Watch this exchange in the Wisconsin legislature. Debate ended on an abortion (ultrasound) bill that that the Democrats oppose. They try to extend the debate to prevent voting on the bill. Watch the fun exchange that occurs after that.
While you at it, watch the full vid as Democrat members misrepresent the bill and the Republicans call them on it. [I cant find this one, anyone else know where to find it?]

I find it astounding that the crowd is abandoning "The Spirit of Vatican II" moniker. If they truly believe that Vatican II was a rupture with the historical Church, why are they afraid now to admit it? Here is Abp Weakland's talk:

Vegan group puts up anti-cheese billboard near Lambeau Field

A new billboard near Lambeau Field soon will warn Green Bay Packers fans about the potentially fatal health risks associated with eating too much cheese.
Sponsored by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, the sign shows the Grim Reaper wearing an iconic cheesehead hat with the message: "Warning: Cheese Can Sack Your Health. Fat. Cholesterol. Sodium."
The nonprofit group, which promotes a vegan diet and has a history of provocative food campaigns, also has sent a letter to Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt asking him to require warning labels on all high-fat, cheesy food at Lambeau. The stadium's dairy-rich menu includes cheese curds and Cheesehead soup, which is a cheddar cheese soup made with beer and topped with more cheese.
The mayor has dismissed the idea, but the physician's organization president says he hopes the effort draws attention to the role cheese plays in the nation's obesity epidemic. The sign is slated to be installed Tuesday in De Pere, Wis., and be visible to fans who travel to games on U.S. Route 41.

Wisconsin will hold elections on Tuesday to recall six Republican seats from the state legislature. These recall elections were a strong and pointed reaction to the attacks on unions made by Walker this past winter.FSPA for Justice and Peace
Wisconsin is popping up all over the news as the site of the most important elections of the year. What message will be sent to conservative lawmakers looking to disenfranchise workers, immigrants, and the economically poor? Will the message be that if you take on the working class with unfair and extreme politics you can expect to lose your seat? Or will it be a green light – after some protest politicians can expect to be able to push through their extreme agendas?
What's funny is that when I covered that piece on Kloppenburglar disenfranchising the Prairie du Sac nuns, one of the commenters actually said that nuns shouldn't be able to vote. I wonder if they think the FSPA shouldn't vote as well?

When many couples have a baby, they send out an email to family and friends that fills them in on the key details: name, gender, birth weight, that sort of thing. (You know the drill: "Both Mom and little Ethan are doing great!")more at Yahoo news
But the email sent recently by Kathy Witterick and David Stocker of Toronto, Canada to announce the birth of their baby, Storm, was missing one important piece of information. "We've decided not to share Storm's sex for now--a tribute to freedom and choice in place of limitation, a stand up to what the world could become in Storm's lifetime (a more progressive place? ...)," it said.
That's right. They're not saying whether Storm is a boy or a girl.
There's nothing ambiguous about the baby's genitals. But as Stocker puts it: "If you really want to get to know someone, you don't ask what's between their legs." So only the parents, their two other children (both boys), a close friend, and the two midwives who helped deliver the now 4-month-old baby know its gender. Even the grandparents have been left in the dark.
In fact, they should not name the baby either. Wait until he or she can speak to name themselves. And language? Why limit it to the parents'? The child should not be bound to the social constructs of society. If they call "red" something like "uzzabuuzaaah" who's to say the child is wrong? Really? They do put other oppressive restrictions on the child's growth. Why stop at gender? In fact who's to say these so called parents have been chosen by the child? Why not let the child decide? I think this couple really needs to examine themselves. Far, far to conservative to really be considered "a tribute to freedom and choice in place of limitation." What they need is to be true liberals in every facet of the child's development.

Voice Of The Faithful has provided a $10,000 grant to Ruth Kolpack to make a documentary film of her 2009 firing as a pastoral associate from a Catholic parish in the Diocese of Madison, today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Bishop Robert Morlino of Madison dismissed her, it appears, after being convinced of the truth of allegations "that she, among other things, encouraged non-Catholics to take communion in Catholic churches, believes in women's ordination and believes she can consecrate theThe Provincial Emails

Ms. Kolpack, the article says, is now 66 years old. When VOTF had a local chapter, I sometimes dropped in. The audience demographics struck me; it was hard to pick out anyone in attendance who looked like they were born after the death of Pope Pius XII. That's also often the case when I see reports of purported women's ordinations. Isn't a claim by a group to be the wave of the future weakened by its having a membership who won't be around when it arrives?

Voice of the Faithful rips Wisconsin Catholics in new documentary
JSOnlineKolpack was fired after allegations surfaced that she, among other things, encouraged non-Catholics to take communion in Catholic churches, believes in women's ordination and believes she can consecrate the Eucharist, a role reserved for ordained clergy.
Kolpack said she may hold views contrary to Catholic teaching as a matter of conscience, but did not share them in her role as a pastoral associate or religious educator.
She was dismissed after a meeting with Morlino in which she refused to recant her thesis - written for her master's degree in divinity from Milwaukee's St. Francis de Sales Seminary - that challenged the church's noninclusive language in the Catholic Mass and its ban on women's ordination.
Kolpack has unsuccessfully appealed her dismissal twice to the Vatican.

Marquette: Liberal Students Deface, Tear Down Posters for Michelle Malkin Speech
Marquette WarriorMichelle Malkin gave a good talk tonight, and hopefully the MacIver Institute (which was taping it) will post the video.
We didn’t expect any disruption, thinking that Marquette students are too polite to try to shout down a speaker, and indeed the two Public Safety officers on duty said that the only possibility of disruption would be from “outside” groups.
In fact the crowd was very pro-Malkin, with no hint of disruption.
But one student got up during the question and answer session to report a rather explosive fact: a friend of his had bragged about going around campus and tearing down flyers that advertised the Malkin talk.
The person was Law School student Steven Manders, who insisted his friend (whom he prefered not to name) was not just blowing smoke, and indeed Manders confirmed that Malkin posters had been torn down in the Wells Street parking garage, where his friend had been.
Officers of the College Republicans confirmed that numerous posters had been torn down, and many other defaced. The language used about Malkin on the defaced posters could not be repeated, since a lady was present when we were speaking to the officers.
Wausau Library Censors Showing of Pro-Life Film
Attorneys from the pro-life Thomas More Society issued a letter today to Marathon County library officials demanding that the library rescind its decision to cancel a showing of a pro-life film.LifeNews
The library is accused of censoring the Wausau “40 Days for Life” group, which wants to show the pro-life documentary, “Blood Money.”
The director of the library, Ralph Illick, had canceled the showing of the movie in one of the library’s “public meeting rooms,” because he determined that the film’s topic – abortion – would “interfere with normal use of our library.”
“Having to demand that a library not engage in censorship is outrageous,” Peter Breen, executive director and legal counsel for the Thomas More Society, told LifeNews.com. “The library’s own policy declares that meeting rooms are to be allocated without regard to the beliefs of those using the rooms, but here, the sincerely held religious beliefs of Wausau “40 Days for Life” that all life is sacred has barred this group from use of these purportedly ‘public’ rooms. We stand ready to take immediate legal action if the showing of the film is not allowed.”
In the letter written to Director Illick, Thomas More Society attorneys cited the library’s own “Bill of Rights,” which guarantees that, “VI. Libraries which make exhibit spaces and meeting rooms available to the public they serve should make such facilities available on an equitable basis, regardless of the beliefs or affiliations of individuals or groups requesting their use.”

As Wisconsin Catholic Sisters, our faith and experience of working alongside and educating many Wisconsin citizens compel us to share our voice in response to what has been occurring in our Legislature. We are deeply concerned about Gov. Scott Walker's plan to strip basic human rights[that's just silly] — including the right to [unlimited] collective bargaining — away from public employees[what about non-public employees? When do we get to collectively bargain? I think the government should give us all a job with these benefits! What's the problem in that?]. Our religious tradition teaches us that all working men and women have inherent dignity and the human right to form associations to improve their work conditions. [Nobody is denying that]
Our state as well as our nation needs to respect the rights of workers to organize and have a voice. Not only is the right to [unlimited] collective bargaining essential, it has been repeatedly affirmed by the Catholic Church. In the 1986 pastoral letter, "Economic Justice for All," the U.S. Catholic bishops[ROFL!! They invoked the USCCB after time and time again thwarting every pro-life effort, every doctrinal teaching, every sneeze they have made.] stated, "No one may deny the rights to organize [again, nobody is denying a right to organize] without attacking human dignity itself. Therefore, we firmly oppose organized efforts, such as those regrettably seen in this country, to break existing unions or prevent workers from organizing." [Oops, you forgot to justify your claim that unlimited collective bargaining is "essential"]
Recognizing the economic challenges facing Wisconsin, public service unions have agreed to a reduction of benefits and wages. Gov. Walker must also be willing to negotiate[for at least 18 months] a solution for the common good of all Wisconsin citizens, one which will not take away the bargaining rights of his fellow public servants. [Who is he supposed to negotiate with? The Illinois resort hotel manager? The senate Democrats chose rather to leave town than negotiate.]
We unite our voices to those of the Catholic bishops[for the first time in 60 years], leaders of other faith traditions and people of good will throughout the state and nation calling upon Gov. Walker and our legislators to respect the rights of Wisconsin public workers to organize and to engage in [unlimited] collective bargaining.

The sisters have offered to foot the bill for the colossal cost of the benefits in question perhaps?
How many of these sisters officially work for the Obama administration... it's more than zero.
Then-Abp Raymond Burke was "literally shouted down" at USCCB meeting
Deal Hudson via Knights of Divine MercyThe 2007 version of the bishops’ “Faithful Citizenship” document, prepared in advance for distribution for the 2008 election, contained several passages that, if taken out of context, gave the green light to Catholic voters to ignore Obama’s aggressively pro-abortion stance. (Obama won the self-identified Catholic vote over Sen. John McCain 54 percent to 44 percent, though among religiously active Catholics he lost by 1 percentage point.)
That document did not emerge from the USCCB without a fight — a number of bishops opposed it; I am told that Archbishop Raymond Burke, then still in St. Louis, was literally shouted down when he tried to explain his opposition to the problematic passages. The best any bishop has been able to say to me regarding “Faithful Citizenship” is that “it was difficult, it was a compromise.”
