"If you have ever been a Catholic or Christian of various stripes you’re going to get attacked for your faith," Hagedorn said in an interview with WTAQ's John Muir, a conservative radio show host. "I think it's unfortunate and that’s not the way things are supposed to be."
Hagedorn, who was appointed to the state appeals court in 2015, said he has always set aside his personal views when hearing cases and will continue to do so if elected to the Supreme Court.

Milwaukee DA John Chisholm calls for a statewide review of Catholic Church abuse files
continue at JSMilwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm is calling for a statewide investigation of the Catholic Church's response to allegations of sexual abuse of minors, similar to the Pennsylvania probe that sparked a wave of inquiries across the country.
Chisholm said he would like to work with district attorneys around the state and newly elected Attorney General Josh Kaul to review all abuse allegations over the last 50 years. He said he would hope the state's bishops would voluntarily open their files.
If not, he said, he would be open to other mechanisms, such as a John Doe or grand jury proceeding.
Chisholm said he also would consider asking the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to share with authorities the names of more than 100 alleged offenders under seal as part of the now-closed Archdiocese of Milwaukee bankruptcy.

That truly unfortunate news reflects an apparent decision by Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) not to challenge Senator Tammy Baldwin’s belated, 11th-hour use of a religious test to block Giampietro. As a result, according to my sources, the White House reluctantly has decided not to renominate Giampietro to replace the late Judge Rudolph Randa. Giampietro’s nomination expired at the end of the last session of Congress.
I recently described Baldwin’s flip-flop after initially submitting Giampietro’s name, along with Senator Ron Johnson, to Trump. Baldwin’s phony claim that Giampietro didn’t make proper disclosures was a fig leaf. The real reason was revealed when none other than a Baldwin appointee to Wisconsin’s judicial nominating commission publicly accused Giampietro of “bigoted” views, views that in fact represent orthodox Catholic teaching.

When I made the decision to attend college, I wanted to be a part of a community of learners that pushed boundaries, yet still held the values of the Catholic Church in high regard. I applied to many types of schools—East and West coast, large and small, with many in the middle.
One component I always returned to was the idea of faith being the cornerstone of the institution, because it is something I wanted to incorporate into my higher education experience. I remember sharing this idea many times with my parents and knowing that it was my calling to continue to be at an institution that held the same values as I.
Marquette University would be something new for me—a new adventure in a new state. It is a Jesuit and Catholic institution, which was one of the largest factors that prompted me to accept the opportunity to enroll.
After one year at the institution, however, I have discovered that Marquette is anything but a Jesuit and Catholic university. There is no acceptance of conservative thoughts, let alone “diversity of thought,” and opinions that I support are frequently shut down in the classrooms.
Senator Tammy Baldwin is blocking judicial nominee "because he's a person of faith"
Supporters of Giampietro have said they believe the criticisms leveled against him have to do with his Catholic faith. Wisconsin's five bishops and the New York-based Catholic League have written to Baldwin asking her not to block Giampietro's confirmation.
Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson said Baldwin provided "bogus" reasons for blocking the nomination. He said the state commission did not ask for media appearances but that a questionnaire he completed for the Senate Judiciary Committee did, and Giampietro complied.full article at JS

Johnson said the state commissioners would not vote for someone who did not have the respect of the wider legal community.
"And now Senator Baldwin in her letter is using anonymous sources to smear a good person. I find that to be despicable, quite honestly," he said.

The Iowa Senate refused to confirm a Nevada woman to the Iowa Board of Medicine Wednesday because of comments she wrote last August on a Catholic online forum critics said were “red flags” on LGBTQ issues.
The appointee is Katherine Asjes and the “online forum” is Catholic World Report. Asjes had been named by Gov. Kim Reynolds to the Iowa Board of Medicine, but she had be to confirmed by the 49-member Iowa Senate. Asjes is the mother of six, the wife of a military veteran, a conservative Republican, and a practicing Catholic. She needed a two-thirds majority, but failed to get it as 18 Democrats voted against her.
Play Depicting ‘Furtive Lesbian Romance’ Performed at St. Norbert's College
At least two Catholic colleges are planning productions this academic year of the play “Stop Kiss,” which has been described as a tale of “furtive lesbian romance” that “chronicles the sexual awakening of two appealing young women as they tiptoe around mutual desire.”
St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis., is sponsoring a production of the play in November. “After Callie meets Sara, the two unexpectedly fall in love,” according to the event description. “Their first kiss provokes a violent attack that transforms their lives in a way they could never anticipate. Mature audiences only; adult language and situations.”
The College of Saint Benedict and St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minn., is planning to perform the play in the spring. The advertisement for the production includes a disclaimer: “Adult content. Recommended for ages 14+.”
Neither college returned multiple requests for comments by the time of publication.
Father Dan Felton, vicar general and moderator of the curia for the Diocese of Green Bay, told the Newman Society that when the play at St. Norbert College came to the attention of the diocese he met immediately with senior administration to address the performance of the play. Today, the anti-secrecy and disclosure site WikiLeaks released more than 1,000 emails as part of an ongoing leak of the hacked emails of John Podesta, chairman of Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Previously, Podesta worked as the President for the Center for American Progress, or CAP, and the Chief of Staff to President Bill Clinton.
Within these leaked emails was a 2011 email thread titled “Conservative Catholicism” sent by CAP Senior Fellow John Halpin to Podesta and to Hillary for America Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri. Palmieri previously served as the Communications Director for Barack Obama and President for the Center for American Progress Action Fund, where she was serving at the time of the emails.

In this toxic climate of the politics of 2016, candidates tear one another apart with almost childish statements. One doesn't know whether to laugh or cry. However, in the midst of the name-calling, one begins to detect that old anti-Catholic bias as it manifests itself in the subtleties appealing to people's fears and ignorance. One can understand if this is coming from individuals who lack an educational background or are fed information from unfounded fears; but, please, today? After the Kennedy years?
I'm old enough to remember when John F. Kennedy had to appear in Houston at a ministers' convention. There, he assured them if he were elected president the pope would not direct the presidency of the United States from Rome. If you asked any Catholic, he or she would have told you as much. No one asked Kennedy if the pope gave him permission to heroically serve in World War II. I guess when your faith forms you as a responsible citizen to defend your country, it doesn't matter that you are Roman Catholic.
Nativism is not new to the history of the United States. There is a deep prejudice toward Catholics stemming from various historical roots transported from European nations to the shores of America. We all have a short historical memory, but many fraternal organizations were founded because Catholics were not allowed membership in societal organizations.

I completely reject Trump, but some observations. If you watched the last debate, Trump is going soft on immigration now anyway. The whole Pope vs Trump thing re-energized his slumping campaign. I can't tell you how much I loathe papal flights which are not red-eyes. The "Border Mass" energized the nativist movement. The USCCB efforts have added fuel to the fire as the "pro-immigration" crowd seems to be advocating for a Libertarian open borders policy. The lame duck president himself shooting off executive orders from the hip. Natural rights are never unlimited. It sort of reminds me of the Act 10 blowup. Those opposing Act 10 seemed to be arguing that there were no limits to rights of teachers unions. And now with the homosexualist movement, it's the same thing, they are a special class of citizen who enjoys unlimited rights. These super-rights for example are powerful enough to change restrooms in schools across the country.
With that said, honestly though, I don't feel very strongly on the topic at all. The numbers have been steady for about 10 years. I'm all for common sense policy, which falls somewhere in the chasm between Obama Open Borders and The Great Wall of Mexico.

The long-time Marquette University political science professor at the center of one of the most controversial academic freedom cases in higher education continues to wait for a faculty hearing committee’s decision on his professional fate.
Marquette has said it intends to fire McAdams because of his blog post a little over a year ago criticizing a student teacher for prohibiting a philosophy student from sharing his opposition to same-sex marriage in the class.
The faculty committee, which held a hearing into the matter in September, has 90 days to make its recommendation on whether McAdams should stay or go.
“If they say Marquette shouldn’t fire me, it will be hard for Marquette to fire me, although they may try to anyway,” McAdams told Wisconsin Watchdog this week on the Vicki McKenna Show, on Newstalk 1310 WIBA. “If they say Marquette can fire me, it will be easier for Marquette, although not terribly easy because, No. 1, that would create a huge amount of bad publicity for Marquette and, No. 2, they have essentially been promised a lawsuit from my lawyers.”

The Aug. 20 dialogue at the Milwaukee Art Museum on "Eggs Benedict" presented a classic conflict between faith and science. Science, represented by the church, won.continue at JS
The faith, in this case, was ideological, ridiculing Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI for saying that distribution of condoms had not stemmed the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa and had actually made it worse. The science, brilliantly summarized by Dr. Christine Zainer, consisted of detailed empirical studies and opinions from public health experts showing that condom distribution had in fact failed to stem the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa; and had, indeed, contributed to spreading HIV/AIDS.
Because of the public health phenomenon known as "risk compensation," condom distribution makes people think sex with condoms is safer than it is. They therefore engage in high-risk sexual activity that they would otherwise refrain from, resulting in transmission of HIV/AIDS to people who would not otherwise contract it. Because no condom is 100% effective, and many fall far short of that (especially if they are re-used), the false sense of security generated by condom distribution leads to HIV/AIDS infections that would not otherwise have occurred.
In short, as explained by Edward C. Green, a senior research fellow at the Harvard University School of Public Health and a self-described liberal and pro-contraceptionist, "The pope was right." Benedict's statement was not the mindless assertion of religious dogma over science-based health care that "Eggs Benedict" falsely portrayed it as being. It was, rather, a courageous witness to human dignity based on religious faith but solidly backed by well-informed scientific opinion and empirical data. It was the artist, Niki Johnson, not the pontiff, who ignored the relevant science.

Zmirak: Cardinal George and the Denethor Option
The first part of Francis Cardinal George’s prophecy, or warning, or cautionary tale, has just come true. That great and good man has indeed died in his bed. After many years of fearless, compassionate witness to the truth of Jesus Christ, and years of suffering with illness, Francis Cardinal George of Chicago has gone to his last reward. One of the brightest flowers to bloom during the long Catholic spring we enjoyed under popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI, his words and deeds embodied the best of the Christian tradition, that inextricable tapestry of fidelity and freedom. Without fidelity to the fatherhood of God, freedom is a bleak and empty, sterile exercise, as shallow and adolescent as the cartoons of Charlie Hebdo. Without freedom, acts of fidelity are not one whit more pleasing to God than marches on May Day in Stalin’s Moscow.
Cardinal George was a stirring example of what English writer Evelyn Waugh foresaw as the “American moment” in the Catholic Church. He carried on the tradition of Charles Carroll, Orestes Brownson, John Courtenay Murray, and Fulton J. Sheen, who each in his own way despoiled the Egyptians—took for Christ’s Church the best and highest and purest that the secular world could offer. For these men, as for George, what they took were the political truths that inspired the founding of a deeply virtuous Republic, the United States of America, where the Church could live and thrive under much more wholesome conditions, with fewer degrading temptations, than under the so-called Christian monarchies that trammeled the Church with favors, which she too often was tempted to accept in place of her freedom. Here on these shores we were offered no mess of pottage, and so we could keep our birthright. That is now what we’ll have to fight for.

Milwaukee Art Museum's embrace of condom portrait of pope draws disgust
continue at JSThe decision by the Milwaukee Art Museum to acquire and prominently display a controversial portrait of Pope Benedict XVI fashioned from 17,000 colored condoms has created outrage among Catholics and others who see it as profoundly disrespectful, even blasphemous.
Many suggest that if a piece were as offensive to other faith traditions or communities it would not be tolerated, much less embraced.
Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki blasted the decision as insulting and callous. The museum acknowledged it has fielded about 200 complaints. A handful of patrons dropped their memberships; one longtime docent tendered her resignation; and at least one donor vowed never to support the museum financially again.
Museum officials said an equal number of people have voiced support for the piece and that memberships and pledges in general are growing. They said they regret that the portrait, by Shorewood artist Niki Johnson, has elicited such enmity. But they insist it was not their intent — nor the intent of the artist — to offend Catholics or anyone else. And they said they continue to enjoy the support of people of all faiths, including Catholics.
"This was never intended to be derisive, mocking or disrespectful of the pope," said museum board of trustees president Don Layden. "It was to have a conversation about AIDS and AIDS education. And my hope is when the piece appears in the museum that will be the focus of the discussion."
Jerry Topczewski, chief of staff for Listecki, called that explanation "a smoke screen."
The whole point of this exhibit is to exercise bigotry against the Catholic Church(the largest charitable organization in the world) and Her teachings. I debated on even covering it since it meets the museum's and the artist's end. Although condoms cannot prevent the AIDS virus from spreading, the myth is perpetuated that the Church hates AIDS victims.

Lawyer connected to Shawano cult has WI law license suspended for anti-Catholic tirade against judges
A lawyer and corporate manager for a controversial religious sect based near Shawano has been barred from practicing law in Wisconsin for a year, in part for publicly smearing federal court officers as "a bunch of ignoramus, bigoted Catholic beasts that carry the sword of the church."continue at GBPG
Naomi Isaacson was a lawyer and CEO of the Dr. R.C. Samanta Roy Institute of Science and Technology. The religious sect known as "SIST," based in Wescott, made news in 2008 for having allegedly compiled a list of 60 Shawano area residents that were "potential victims of an implied threat," according to Shawano police.
The institute, which also has been identified as The Disciples of the Lord Jesus, has operated since the 1970s in the Shawano area, where it owned motels, gas stations and a go-cart track. The FBI in 2009 investigated the "implied threat" list, but no charges were brought.
Isaacson had her law license suspended this week for conduct that "displayed an utter disregard and disrespect for the integrity of the courts and their judges in a brazen and outrageous fashion," according to the Wisconsin Supreme Court's Office of Lawyer Regulation.
In some of the court actions in which she was involved, Isaacson called Shawano a "Neo-Nazi territory" and accused former Mayor Lorna Marquardt of having undue influence on the local and federal court systems, court records say. Marquardt was reportedly one of the 60 people on the 2008 "implied threat" list.
It's been a while but this does ring a bell.

Although Isaacson spent 3-1/2 years working as a law clerk for a Hennepin County district judge, her 16-page filing Tuesday lacked the characteristics of a legal document. The document says it is "From the Desk of C.E.O. Naomi Isaacson, J.D.," and the first 2-1/2 pages are typed in all capital letters. She called one trustee "Grand Inquisitor" and referred to the attorney representing the U.S. Trustee Program as a "Papal Drummer."

Go read the ridiculous response from the school. Okay things have gotten bad, but not to the point where these people can claim ignorance to this crime.
I believe this is the Diocese of Rockford.
That reminds me of stories from this area, I think La Crosse maybe, where public school kids would throw fish on the floor during basketball games against Catholic schools. Yes, I think my uncle told me that 40-50 years ago, that would happen when Aquinas played the other public high schools in the city.

John Doe 104 sued the archdiocese in 2013, alleging Stitts sexually abused him in the 1970s at St. Leo's in the Highland Park neighborhood of St. Paul and at St. George's at Long Lake while Stitts was serving at Long Lake.
I guess we could get technical and try to figure out what is protected under "spiritual direction" or "confession" although many times they end up being the same person.
